FROM THE ARTIST

My artwork stems from an innate sense of exploration and discovery. Although frequently taken in populated cities and urban centers, my photographs are created with considerable negative space and a minimalistic feel. In omitting the human form from the frame, my aim is to illustrate the effect of its influence on the landscape, even after having vacated the scene.

I utilize the graphic elements of line and shape, often by way of architectural features. While great metropolises provide innumerable opportunities to incorporate these into my images, the true test is in paring them down to visuals pleasant to the viewer’s eye. The same concept of aesthetic minimalism applies to photographs I create in scenes of nature, which I enjoy as much as those created in more inhabited areas. I accomplish this approach often by use of the tripod, which slows my process, thus enabling me to take the time to fill the camera frame with only essential components of the scene. The goal is to reduce the complexity, add negative space, and, as a result, produce the desired minimalistic imagery.

In a world where there exists a daily barrage of visuals, information, and at times a seemingly frantic pace of life, I find it refreshing to produce art that counteracts these. My intent is to create works that allow the viewer to fill in the blanks for themselves rather than to overwhelm.
