Free Access to our Galleries & Black Box Theater
We asked artists what we could provide to support their arts practice, and the answer was unanimous — access to space. So, as an Artist Member, you'll receive monthly access to our galleries or black box theater! Looking to work on a larger art piece or collaborate with other artists? You've got space for that. Looking to rehearse a new song or monologue for an audition? Move it from the bedroom to the stage. Simply reserve a time that works for you online in the Artist Member Portal, and that's it — you're free to create.
Free Squares & Early Access to WallMountables
WallMountables is one of D.C.’s largest open community art exhibitions! During WallMountables, we transform our gallery walls into a grid of 2’ × 2’ squares. Anyone can purchase as many squares as they’d like and display whatever artwork they want. Because this event regularly sells out, Artist Members can register before anyone else which guarantees participation and premium square placement! While simply showing your work is exciting enough, there’s always the chance that your work sells, too! As an Artist Member, you get 2 free squares (a $100 value)—that’s half the cost of your membership right there!
Free Professional Development
Our Workshop Series provides opportunities to develop your craft and your art business. From learning how to professionally photograph your work in a gallery or gaining a better understanding of contract law and negotiation to picking up a new technique or craft, members gain access to monthly professional development training — included in your membership.
Free Tuition. No Fees. More Profit.
We’re removing all application fees for members when applying to any of our programs. Even more, if chosen to participate in our Sparkplug Artists’ Collective or The Curatorial Initiative, we’ll waive the $250 yearly tuition. And if you're exhibiting in our gallery, we’ll make sure you see even more of the profit when your work sells. Artist Members keep 70% of proceeds from the sale of their work as compared to the standard 60% for non-members.
Exclusive Events, Opportunities, & Professional Promotion
As a member, you’ll gain access to exclusive networking events allowing you to grow your professional network and strengthen your creative connections — including our upcoming Collectors Events. We’re also going to work with our members to create exclusive DCAC merchandise, offering another avenue for you to display your talents to the world. You’ll also be eligible to apply for inclusion in our upcoming ArtStore Program and to be represented alongside The DC Arts Center at art fairs all across the city.

THE FINE PRINT
Artist Membership is a 12-month, non-refundable commitment, regardless of whether payment is made annually or in monthly installments. Memberships are not prorated.
Members may choose one of the following payment options:
Annual Payment: $200 for adults / $100 for full-time students
Monthly Installments: $20/month for adults or $10/month for full-time students (12 total payments; $240 total for adults / $120 total for full-time students)
Memberships automatically renew at the end of the 12-month term unless canceled by the member. Cancellation prevents renewal but does not terminate an active membership. All memberships remain active through the full 12-month term.
For members paying monthly, installment payments continue until all 12 payments have been successfully processed and cannot be canceled mid-term.
A renewal reminder will be sent no later than 30 days prior to the renewal date, in accordance with applicable law.
