Intro to Narrative Improv with Kristina Martinez

In this workshop, we'll start with the most important building blocks for creating a full long-form narrative improv show. Players will gain a deeper understanding of the narrative form, various narrative techniques, and tips for making narrative moves. Let's improvise a story!

Understand and apply a story spine
Discuss and identify crucial characters
Establish important beats for the form
Perform and improvise a complete story
This workshop is a basic introduction to narrative improv as a format. Improvisors interested in learning a new format will find this workshop a good starting point. This workshop is also useful for improvisors looking to add narrative techniques, characters, or ideas to their improv toolbox.

Completion of two or more long-form improv classes from an organization’s core curriculum.

📗 Instructor Bio
Kristina has been improvising for over 10 years, with about five of those as artistic director for Atlas Improv Co. in Madison, WI. She values strong character work and honest reactions, and if you get her started on narrative or genre, she’ll talk forever. Kristina has performed at a number of improv festivals in her narrative duo Goodison, including The Endurance Improv Festival, the Countdown Improv Festival, the 2nd Best Comedy Fest, and the Omaha Improv Festival. She also performs with the WIT ensembles The Broken Bones and Uncle Gorgeous.
