WallMountables 2026

One of DC’s largest open community exhibitions and The DC Arts Center’s annual fundraiser.

“Any artist can display their work regardless of experience, medium, or style. This open-entry policy is a rare find in the art world, where competition and curation can often limit opportunities for emerging artists. By allowing anyone to participate, WallMountables opens doors for new voices in the DC art scene, supporting artists who might otherwise struggle to find exhibition space.”

Camille Kouyoumdjian
Artist, WallMountables 2024

WallMountables 2026 opens Friday, July 24, and closes Friday, August 21.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to our most frequently asked questions. Updated for 2026.

  • Wallmountables is one of DC’s largest open community art exhibitions and The DC Arts Center’s annual fundraiser!

During WallMountables, we transform our gallery walls into a massive grid of 2’ x 2’ squares. Anyone can purchase as many squares as they’d like, select their space on the wall, and hang whatever artwork they want to share or sell!

One great way to participate in WallMountables and support DCAC is to become an Artist Member.

Learn all about an Artist Membership here.

While simply showing your work is exciting enough, there's always the chance that your work sells, too! We sell the most art each year at WallMountables. Last year’s exhibition generated more than $3,500 in art sales, with artists keeping 100% of those proceeds.

  • WallMountables opens on Friday, July 24, 2026, with an Opening Celebration from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. The exhibition will close on Friday, August 21, 2026, with a Closing Reception from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.

Artists can register for the event and participate even following the Opening Celebration (pending square availability).

Installation takes place by appointment, Thursday, July 16 - Monday, July 20, 2026. Deinstallation takes place immediately following the closing reception on Friday, August 21, 2026.

  • All artwork must be deinstalled and removed from the gallery by the Artist (or a representative of the Artists) following the Closing Reception.

We understand that schedules and logistics can sometimes be complicated, and Artist Members are afforded a bit more flexibility when additional pickup time is needed. Artist Members needing exceptions should email us in advance so we can discuss what may be possible.

Any non-member artwork not picked up by the designated deadline will be considered donated to The DC Arts Center.

  • We’re so happy you asked! Our Artist Membership is designed specifically for, well, Artists.

There are tons of benefits you can read all about by clicking here, but some of our favorites include:

    • Free access to our gallery and theater spaces for your art practice

    • Two free WallMountables squares every year

    • Free access to our monthly Workshop Series and Poetry Series

    • Discounts at local restaurants in Adams Morgan

    • Waived tuition if selected for the Sparkplug Artists’ Collective or The Curatorial Initiative

    • Waived application fees for every call for entry

    • Reduced gallery commission rates, allowing artists to keep 70% of sales instead of the standard 60%

For complete transparency, Artist Memberships are a 12-month commitment, whether paid monthly or annually. If canceled, memberships remain active through the end of the 12th month following activation or renewal.

  • Well, it could be free! When you become a new Artist Member or renew your membership, you get 2 free squares for use during WallMountables! That’s just one benefit in addition to gaining access to our space and a whole slew of other membership benefits. Read all about the Artist Membership here!

Also, Artists are encouraged to include the cost of participation in the pricing of their art, which would also make it essentially free to participate!

Of course, you can purchase squares à la carte. Each 2’ x 2’ square sells for between $50 and $60 per square based on wall location. Hurry! All squares are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and last year sold out fast! There is no limit to the number of spaces one can purchase. Payment processing fees will be included with your order.

But we want to be clear — we’re not turning anyone away. If you need assistance making participation a reality, please email us.

  • Most squares are priced at $50.

Premium featured squares located at eye level or in especially prominent, intimate, or highly visible areas of the gallery are priced at $60.

In some cases, a limited number of squares located below eye level may be offered at a reduced rate of $35. These discounted squares are extremely rare and are typically only offered shortly before the exhibition opening in the event that a small amount of inventory still remains available.

  • According to data from WallMountables 2025 looking at 452 pieces of artwork, the average listed price of a single artwork was $281. The average price of artwork that sold was $104.

Ultimately, pricing is always up to the artist, and there were absolutely outliers both above and below these averages.

  • First, celebrate!

We’ll handle all payment processing on your behalf through our online store. We’ll ensure the interested buyer submits their payment electronically and then mark the work as sold on the wall. From there, once WallMountables closes, we’ll handle pickup or delivery with the buyer directly.

We’ll then send your payment electronically or via check, minus any payment processing fees or commissions, within one week of the event closing.

  • Artists keep 100% of the first $1000 they make in artwork sales during WallMountables. The gallery does not take any commission on those sales.

Once an artist sells more than $1,000 total, commission only applies to the amount earned after that first $1,000.

    • Artist Members keep 70% of additional sales.

    • Non-members keep 60% of additional sales.

Example: You sell $1,200 worth of artwork.

You keep the full first $1,000.

The remaining $200 is split based on your membership status:

    • Artist Members will keep $140 (70% of the additional $200) for a total of $1,140.

    • Non-members will keep $120 (60% of the additional $200) for a total of $1,120.

  • To support a variety of schedules and provide as much flexibility as possible for participating Artists, installation takes place by appointment only from July 16 - 20, 2026, with both afternoon and evening appointment options available on both weekdays and weekends.

    Schedule your installation here.

Artists who wish to join the exhibition after the Opening Celebration are still welcome to participate! Following registration, we’ll coordinate a mutually agreeable installation time on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that artists are responsible for their own installation and for bringing any tools or hardware needed to hang their work. A member of The DC Arts Center team will be on-site during your installation appointment to provide light guidance and support. Because temperature and humidity conditions in the gallery naturally fluctuate, adhesives are not permitted.

If you need assistance scheduling an installation appointment or need to discuss installation methods, please email us.

  • Yes! Some of our walls have plugs at the base of the wall — but some do not. Be sure to review the floor plan of each wall below before making your final square selections. If you are interested in using electricity for your installation, we recommend purchasing a square as close to the base of the wall as possible.

  • Within reason, sure! We would just recommend purchasing a square at or above eye level to ensure everyone’s safety, including your work’s!

  • Yes! While we’ll continue to embrace our online store and digital efforts, there will also be physical labels on the walls.
